ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION are a major focus of the Nova Scotia Community College. As part of this work we are presenting the second year of this exciting program opportunity!
The economy in Cuba is changing from a long history of state-run industry and businesses to new initiatives in entrepreneurship, tourism and international ventures. Take part in this exciting learning opportunity in Holguin, Cuba and increase your business networks across borders by working on projects focused on Cuba's changing economy.
NSCC students will work with faculty leads on their project throughout the academic year and in April/May 2018, travel to Cuba to visit businesses, learn about culture and spend time at the University of Holguin where students will present their projects.
The group will also participate in the Romarias de Mayo music festival in which NSCC music strudents will be performing.
This program is open to first and second year Business Administration students at the Ivany Campus.
About Romerias de Mayo – International Youth Arts Festival
This event in the city of Holguin, involves a pilgrimage to a nearby hilltop and the coming together of young artists to share their artistic endeavours, during a week-long celebration throughout the city. The festival dates back to 1790 when a young catholic priest decided to organize a pilgrimage with the arrival of spring, and raised a Wooden Cross at the top of the highest point in the city. In 1993, a group of young artists took this tradition and transformed it into an arts festival. They added a Cuban First Nation, “Taino Axe” as a symbol of Cuba’s mixed heritage and the message of the festival became, “There is no future without the past”. It celebrates knew beginnings with a historic connection to the history of the region, by presenting youth in the arts including many styles of music, theatre, painting, dance, film, design, photography, literature, poetry, and the exploration of new art.
