Entrepreneurship Summer School – Student Application

Program Summary:

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION are a major focus of the Nova Scotia Community College. As part of this work we are presenting the fourth year of this exciting program opportunity!

With the aim to generate business ideas through multi-cultural teamwork, this program will provide students with a full educational, cultural and social experience. Activities include classroom sessions, company visits to renowned local and multinational businesses, individual and group activities, presentations and case-studies on the theme of entrepreneurship and a social program.

The 2018 program will take place over two weeks in July/August.

Program Qualifications:

This program is open to first and second year Business Administration (any concentration) students. Successful completion of the program will provide first year students with one elective credit for the second year of their program.

  • Student must be in good academic standing
  • Student must have a valid passport or able to get one

 

About Aberdeen, Scotland and Robert Gordon University

In September of 2015, the city of Aberdeen and the city of Halifax renewed an agreement to strengthen economic ties in oil and gas, renewable energy, sustainable development, education and tourism.

The Aberdeen Business School (ABS) is the largest of three faculties at Robert Gordon University. The ABS’s strong links with industry, commerce and the public sector enable them to develop practical innovative courses designed to prepare students for today’s business needs.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To develop and refine the skills needed to prepare for and participate in an international learning experience including research, organization, risk management, teamwork, interpersonal communication and cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • To learn about the business environmentand practices in Europe and how it compares to the Canadian context.
  • To identify and reflect on the differences and similarities between Canada and Scotland.
  • To strengthen academic and portfolio profiles through enhanced research, analytical thinking, planning, communication, innovation, entrepreneurship and applied learning.

Students should complete their application on or before November 17, 2017.  Following interviews with shortlisted candidates, students will be notified in the first half of November if they are accepted to participate in this program.  After receiving approval students will be given a payment schedule and will be expected to pay a $250 deposit as their first payment in December. At this time a learning contract will also be distributed to be signed by students and faculty outlining roles and responsibilities.

Pre-Departure:

  • Students accepted into this program must participate in the pre-departure online course and one-day pre-departure conference
  • Students must follow the NSCC international travel policy

Wait List:

Those who are interviewed but not selected may have the opportunity to be placed on a wait-list until all deposits are received.

Program Cost:

The approximate costs associated with this program are outlined below.  The exact costs will be confirmed by NSCC and RGU and will depend on the Great Britain Pound exchange rate. The following costs will be included in your Program Fee payable to Nova Scotia Community College.

Additional Individual Costs (may vary depending on individual):

Meals ($70/day x 7 days in first week) $490

Participants are responsible for the costs of their passport & passport photos ($100), immunizations and prescriptions ($50), meals and any additional expenses not outlined in the Program Fee.

Student Bursary

Students will have the opportunity to apply for a bursary of up to $500 from NSCC International (made possible through external funding) to participate in the program. Application details will be sent to those selected to participate in the program.

Withdrawal:

Students who withdraw from this program after they have confirmed their participation will forfeit their deposit.
