Doing Business in Europe – Hello! My name is Gina Harnish and I am a Business Administration student at the Nova Scotia Community College, Waterfront Campus. I am one of six students chosen from NSCC to participate in the Doing Business in Europe Program at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, Netherlands.

The program is already half over and I cannot believe how fast the time flys! Groningen is such a beautiful city with beautiful buildings and so much greenery, even within the city centre. I love how easy it is to get around on a bike. We got the chance to visit the Groningen Museum this weekend and to climb Martini Tower! (Which is not a bar, but actually a church) The view from the top of the tower was breathtaking, you can overlook the entire city. We have been so lucky weather wise, I have barely needed my raincoat, knock on wood!

Yesterday our group went to the Island of Schiermonnikoog, we had beautiful weather for biking. We all woke up early to take the bus to the ferry terminal. The ferry ride was about an hour. We were able to rent bikes on the island and tour around the island all day! We first went to the highest point on the island, then we ventured to the beach! We then biked to a cute little restaurant beside a lake to have lunch. It was nice to be able to relax and enjoy the sunshine! We then had the afternoon to explore the island a bit. It was a very peaceful and enjoyable day!

The classes we are taking are enjoyable and informative. It’s impressive how much information the professors can squeeze into each class. All of the professors are so nice and helpful. I am so grateful to have this opportunity to travel and study in the Netherlands and experience true Dutch culture! I have had an amazing time so far and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for us!
