Culture, Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Professional Skills Project in St. Kitts & Nevis – I had the opportunity to travel with NSCC International to the beautiful Saint Kitts & Nevis (15 -30 May 2022). I am currently a second-year student in the first offering of the Africentric Early Childhood Education program at NSCC Akerley Campus. Traveling to St. Kitts & Nevis was so important to myself, as I have roots in the Caribbean and being a first-generation Nova Scotian, it was an opportunity to contact my Caribbean roots and to travel to a mostly Black country and enhance my professional skills.

From the moment we arrived, they welcomed us with open arms at the airport. They made sure we all felt safe, secure and at home during our two weeks we were down there. Each of the location we attended/visited, everyone was friendly, welcoming, and were always happy to greet us with a big smile and a handshake/hug. The food we had during our Suppers, was some of the best food I ever had.

My “ah ha” moment during my stay, was being able to visit multiple centres and a school across both Saint Kitts & Nevis, as well getting to see the way each place teaches, nurtures, and cares for the children.

During my stay I had the opportunity to speak to countless children, teachers, students, and faculty at The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), who hosted our stay.

I made a lot of new connections, during this amazing lifetime experience, and I want to thank both NSCC International and CFBC for never giving up on making this experience a reality.

This trip very much humbled me, as it helped me to create new connections, build forever relationships, and allowed me to discover my Caribbean side of who I am.
