Women in Entrepreneurship Project in Peru – My time in Peru was most definitely one of the best times of my life. I got to experience the culture, meet new people, work with some amazing women entrepreneurs, and take in all the sights. We tried local and traditional food that included alpaca and guinea pig. We toured the cities of Arequipa and Cuzco and hiked Machu Picchu where we learned all about the history of the from our wonderful tour guides. The students from the local university we partnered with instantly became our friends the first day we were introduced, we developed relationships with them that I’m sure will last a lifetime. The first day they took us all around the city and to a massive market that had a crazy amount of fruit and then to a local craft beer bar to unwind. Throughout the week they took us to other local spots for food, drinks, and the sights. Working with the women was an amazing experience, we got to share what we learned from NSCC from our programs with them to help grow their businesses. Although we went there to help and teach them, I think we also learned a lot from them by hearing their stories, their perspective, and how business is very different in certain ways in Peru than it is in Canada. On the weekend we traveled to Machu Picchu to take in the famous Inca ruins. This is definitely a must do for anyone traveling to Peru, the views were amazing. All in all, this trip was an amazing once in a lifetime experience and I would recommend it to anyone considering doing it.
