Celia’s Blog

Hi All, my name is Celia Deer and I am an international student from the beautiful island of Jamaica. I was very enthused when I found out that I was accepted to attend Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Akerley to study Business Tourism. I was now to leave my first and only job at The Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica for 19 years.

Coming here was an opportunity for me to re-invent myself and widen my scope of learning and interacting with people; which I thoroughly enjoy doing. I have been loving every minute of being here and all the new experiences and cultures I have been exposed to. I have met so many other international students from all around the world that have made the same decision as me. I am so filled with excitement every day to achieve and motivate others to achieve.

As an international student ambassador, I am driven to always be the best part of somebody’s day, especially international students to help them feel a part of a wider international family and community. Life of an international student can be extremely hard and frustrating at times, so it is good when you can talk and relate to someone who may be going through or have faced similar situations.
